Lab Incharge: Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Rana
The focus of the Transformation lab is to explore the natural diversity of the genetic alteration of a plant cell by the uptake of DNA from the environment. This process can occur naturally in some types of bacteria, but typically rare in plants. In the Transformation lab at CAS-AFS University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, we can subject bacteria to certain conditions that help them to take up desired exogenous DNA from the environment (transformed), leading to the transferring to the plants. Such plants then do express the desired traits.
